Biography
My love for music started at the age of 3 when my mother had me watch a VHS of violinist Viktoria Mullova, and while I may not have pursued the violin my love for music has only grown.
After receiving my degree in Flute Performance from George Mason I sought additional instruction and participated in several international festivals and masterclasses. When I moved to California I decided to focus my energy on helping to cultivate a love of music in the next generation.
My flute students have won positions in Youth Orchestras, Honor Bands, Honor Orchestra, principal and leadership positions in bands and orchestras. I have also had students featured in the LA Flute Association Showcase concerts. My students are regularly commended by directors for their beautiful tasteful tone, rhythmic clarity, and easy to work with attitude.
My vocal students have participated in competitions and received exemplary feedback on their tone, breathe control, usage of their mix voice, and have successfully auditioned for lead roles and solos within their vocal and theatre departments.
I believe a good teacher is one who continues to grow. In addition to my own teaching, I am continuing my education with lessons from Catherine Karoly, associate principal flute of the LA Philharmonic. In addition to Ms. Karoly, my principal teaches include Julianna Nickel, Giorgio Consolati, and Barbara Gregory.
I am also an active freelancer in the Los Angeles area. I have performed with the Santa Clarita Symphony and am on the sub list for several orchestras throughout the LA area. I have recorded flute, piccolo, and alto flute for several independant projects, and performed on the International Symphonina Project’s award-winning album Advent of The Symphonina.
In addition to my private studio, I have taught sectionals in several of the middle and high schools around Santa Clarita. I am also on the Artistic staff for the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra where I teach the Prelude group, and run sectionals for the wind sections of every ensemble.
When I’m not teaching or practicing flute I can regularly be found on a cliff looking at Peregrin Falcons.
